Antony’s discontent was palpable when asked to switch to left-back in Manchester United’s FA Cup triumph over Liverpool.
The Brazilian’s crucial goal pushed the match into extra time at Old Trafford, followed by Amad Diallo’s decisive goal under Erik ten Hag’s leadership.

However, during the extra time interval, Antony seemed to challenge Ten Hag’s instruction to remain at left-back. Distancing himself from the group, Antony’s frustration was evident through his gestures before engaging in a heated discussion with Marcus Rashford.
Rashford, showing support, escorted Antony back to the field, with Christian Eriksen also sharing a few words with the winger, United’s significant acquisition from Ajax in 2022.

When asked about being told to play as a left-back after United’s victory over Liverpool, Antony told TNT Sports Brasil: ‘Sacrifice, sacrifice, when the coach said that, I found it a bit strange, but sacrificing for the group, sacrificing for the team, that’s fine with me.’
Antony also concedes he has found it difficult with his lack of playing time at Old Trafford in recent weeks.
‘A very emotional goal for me, for everything I’ve been through and am still going through,’ Antony said.
‘It’s not easy, I’m a 24-year-old boy and I’m going through all these things, with the help of my companions, my family.
‘It’s a relief, I know, the group knows how hard I’ve been working on a daily basis, even though I don’t come on much or at all.
‘I’ve been excelling a lot in training, I’m very grateful for the opportunity too. I hope it’s the first of many.’
