Arsenal have confirmed that new signing Thomas Partey will wear the no18 shirt at the club.
Partey completed his move to the Emirates on a four-year deal – which includes the option for a further one year after Arsenal made a successful late effort to land Mikel Arteta’s transfer target.
Arsenal met the midfielder’s £45m release clause at Atletico Madrid, while he also had a successful medical in Spain and then travelled to London with personal terms already agreed.
“Thomas has all the right attributes to be a top player for Arsenal,” said technical director Edu. “He is a leader on and off the pitch and he is exactly the kind of player and person we want at the club.
“We already feel like we know Thomas very well based on the work we have done analysing his performances closely in recent times.
“With his all-round game and positive aggressive style, he will be a brilliant addition to our squad. We’ve made a strong start to the season and we want to continue to build on this with Thomas now part of our club.”
Partey will bolster Arsenal – a team that have won three of their opening four Premier League games in the 2020/21 season in addition to claiming the Community Shield and making it through to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.

He has been handed the no18 shirt which was previously worn by players like Nacho Monreal, Mikael Silvestre and Giles Grimandi.
Partey wore the no5 Jersey at Atletico, but that number is currently occupied at Arsenal Sokratis Papastathopoulos, who remains at Arsenal despite rumours regarding a potential departure before the deadline.
