Arsenal to make £60m transfer bid for Eddie Nketiah upgrade

Arsenal are set to restart their search for a new striker with a £60 million offer for one of Europe’s top-performing forwards.

The Gunners aimed to sign a new No.9 at the beginning of the transfer window but faced an early setback when Benjamin Sesko chose to renew his contract with RB Leipzig.

With players like Victor Osimhen and Alexander Isak considered too expensive, Arsenal turned their focus to acquiring a versatile winger to compete with and support Bukayo Saka.

Spain’s Euro 2024 hero Nico Williams became Arsenal’s primary target for this role, but he is determined to join Barcelona from Athletic Bilbao.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are preparing to approve the transfer of Eddie Nketiah, who has reportedly agreed on terms with Marseille.

The details of the deal are still being finalized, but once the 25-year-old’s move is confirmed, Mikel Arteta will again concentrate on strengthening his forward line.

Kai Havertz performed well towards the end of last season, but it is uncertain if he can maintain his form, and Gabriel Jesus’ fitness and injury history have become a growing concern.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Arsenal are ready to approach Sporting Lisbon with a bid of £55m to £60m for Victor Gyokeres.

However, the Portuguese club believes they can incite a bidding war and are still insisting that the Swedish international’s £86m release clause be paid in full.

With the former Coventry City player scoring an impressive 43 goals in 50 appearances last season, Sporting’s confidence is justified.

Chelsea and Atletico Madrid are also reportedly monitoring the 26-year-old’s situation, while Liverpool has a long-standing interest, although they are unlikely to bid at this stage of the window.

Arsenal have also identified alternative targets and are closely watching Ajax’s Brian Brobbey and Lille’s Jonathan David.
