Sesko found the net 21 times last season, a lower tally compared to other Arsenal targets Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen. However, at a younger age than both, the Slovenian forward is seen as a long-term prospect with the potential to develop into a Premier League star.
Despite their focus on Sesko, Arsenal have not withdrawn from the race for Gyokeres, who remains on the radar of Manchester United and Chelsea.
The Gunners have been tracking Sesko for some time, having expressed interest in him last summer and again during the January transfer window. However, they failed to secure a striker in either instance, a decision that proved costly as the season progressed.
Sesko is reportedly set to leave Leipzig this summer, but the Bundesliga club is demanding a hefty transfer fee. Arsenal are expected to negotiate for a lower price, aiming to secure the deal within a more reasonable range.
Arteta and his coaching staff are determined to bring Sesko to north London, believing he will be a valuable addition to their squad.
Since joining Leipzig from Red Bull Salzburg, Sesko has delivered strong performances, earning recognition as one of Slovenia’s most promising footballers.
Meanwhile, Gyokeres and Osimhen had standout seasons, with Gyokeres scoring prolifically for Sporting Lisbon and Osimhen making a significant impact at Galatasaray.
Chelsea, however, appear to have shifted their focus away from these targets, having finalized a deal to sign Liam Delap from Ipswich Town.
Sesko discussed the speculation surrounding his future at RB Leipzig last week, telling reporters: ‘The club has given me a lot and continues to give me a lot every day. It’s a great club to develop at.’
He added that in the future he wants to ‘play for a club that suits me’ and ‘brings out the best in me’.
‘I’m currently a player for RB Leipzig, so I’m taking it day by day,’ he said. ‘If a transfer happens, and if it doesn’t, then it doesn’t.’
