Having struggled for clinical finishing last term, Arsenal are urgently seeking a forward who can sharpen their attacking threat.
While Mikel Arteta’s men were tipped to contend seriously for the Premier League title, their form dipped late in the season, leaving them 10 points adrift of champions Liverpool.
Gyokeres could be the key to unlocking Arsenal’s full potential—if they can finalize the move before the new season kicks off.
According to Portuguese outlet Record, Arsenal and Gyokeres’ representatives tabled a formal offer to Sporting in a three-way meeting on Monday.
The proposed transfer included a guaranteed fee of just under £61 million, with a further £8.5 million in bonuses.
However, friction emerged over those add-ons—Sporting are pushing for achievable performance targets, while Arsenal are reluctant to commit to easier triggers.
Negotiations have reportedly stalled for now, but the door remains open to resolving the deadlock.
Gyokeres joined Sporting two years ago from Coventry City, where he tallied 38 goals across 91 Championship matches during his final seasons.
The Swedish international first arrived in England in 2018 via Brighton from Brommapojkarna, but struggled to secure minutes at the AMEX, instead going on loan to St Pauli and Swansea.
He rediscovered his form during a loan spell at Coventry in 2020/21, leading to a permanent deal in July 2021.
After making a significant impact in the Midlands, he earned a move to Sporting, where he flourished.
Arsenal were reportedly close to sealing the deal a week ago after Arteta urged the board to wrap things up within two weeks.
Gyokeres, keen for clarity, allegedly reached out directly to Sporting president Frederico Varandas, expressing discontent over the lack of progress.
Now, the striker—who has 15 goals in 26 international outings for Sweden—is under disciplinary scrutiny in Portugal for missing pre-season training.
He remains hopeful that discussions between Arsenal and Sporting will resume quickly to push the transfer forward.
