Arteta reveals where Arsenal still need to strengthen after Bournemouth victory

Mikel Arteta says Arsenal hope to make one more signing before the summer window closes, claiming the club are still short on ‘firepower’ up front.

The Gunners cruised to a 3-0 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday to make it three wins from three, lifting them to the top of the Premier League.

A brace from Odegaard and a wonderful effort from William Saliba marked another impressive display in front of goal with Arsenal netting nine times so far this season.

Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martintelli have both scored twice so far this campaign Arteta has suggested he is eager for the London club to bring in another goal-scoring option.

Asked if the club’s transfer policy changes at all given their excellent start to the season, he said: ‘That doesn’t change. We know we are short, we have to add more firepower and we can do it.’

Nicolas Pepe was left out of the Arsenal team for Saturday’s match with the club in talks with Nice over a loan move for the Ivory Coast international.

The Athletic claim Arsenal’s chances of bringing in a new winger are likely to depend on Pepe leaving the club.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Arteta conceded Arsenal’s current transfer situation is ‘tricky’ but hopes to see another new signing arrive before deadline day on 1 September.

‘We will try until the end, the transfer window is tricky at the moment, we would like to do something else, but let’s see what we can do.’

Assessing Arsenal’s superb win on the coast, Arteta said it was ‘still far’ from being perfect, saying his side gave up too many chances to the hosts.

‘We had some very strong periods and were very efficient in the opponent’s half but in the second half we conceded too many chances for Bournemouth to put the ball in our box and then you’re going to suffer.

‘I’m proud because it’s not easy to come here and win 3-0 but there’s still obviously things to improve.’
