Arteta speaks out on Aubameyang’s future after FA Cup win over Man City

Mikel Arteta hopes the nature of Arsenal’s victory over Manchester City will be enough to convince the club’s captain to remain at the Emirates beyond this season.

Aubameyang scored a brace as the gunners overcame Man City to book a place in the FA Cup final against either Manchester United or Chelsea.

The striker has only a year remaining on his current contract and is believed to want a three-year deal worth £250,000-per-week to remain at Arsenal.

Speaking about Aubameyang’s future, Arteta said: ‘Hopefully it will help him to be more convinced we are going in the right direction.

‘The way he looks at it when I speak with him, he sounds pretty convinced. But if he can see the success and direction we are taking it is the right one, I think he’ll be more positive about it, yes.’

A 2-0 victory over City represented the second landmark victory of an outstanding week for Mikel Arteta who also masterminded a 2-1 win over Klopp’s Liverpool on Wednesday.

‘I’m extremely happy and proud of the players. I’m sad that we can’t enjoy this moment with our fans,’ added Arteta.

‘That’s what you need against this team. You have to make the most of the opportunities and put everybody on the line. They are the best team in Europe in the way they play positionally.

‘There’s a great chemistry between them [Arsenal players] and they believe in what we are trying to do and you can see that. Congratulations to them.

‘They [Man City] are really good on the high press, as we are as well. We gave the ball away in dangerous situations and they are good in that transition moment but the first goal was really great. There are some things that we are trying to close down.’
