Aubameyang sets another new record as Barcelona smash Real Madrid

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s superb start at Barcelona continued as he scored a brace in their 4-0 win over Real Madrid on Sunday.

Xavi’s side delivered a commanding display against the La Liga leaders at the Santiago Bernabeu, with Ronald Araujo and Ferran Torres also getting on the scoresheet.

Aubameyang’s double at the Bernabeu means that he has now scored nine goals in 11 games since leaving Arsenal in the January transfer window.

But Aubameyang, who made the assist for Torres’ goal against Madrid, has also set another record in La Liga as he has become the first player in the 21st century to be involved in three goals in his first ever El Clasico game.

Aubameyang is also the only player in the 21st century to score in five consecutive matches against Real Madrid.

The win has kept Barcelona third in the league table but they are 12 points behind Madrid with a game in hand due to their poor start to the campaign under Ronald Koeman.

Speaking after the game, Xavi praised Aubameyang for his performance. He said:‘We played a very complete match, much better than Madrid, much superior.

‘The high pressure was very good, with Aubameyang, and also with Pedri helping a lot.

‘We knew how to play against them, we created many chances, we knew how to attack them, we played a great game. They attacked us in the last 20 minutes, but that can happen when you are four goals ahead.’
