Serhou Guirassy’s impressive hat trick brought Dortmund back into contention, but a 54th-minute own goal by Ramy Bensebaini ultimately left the German side with too much to do.
Barcelona will now meet either Inter Milan or Bayern Munich in the semi-finals, with Inter holding a narrow 2-1 advantage heading into the return leg at the San Siro.
Still, many Barcelona supporters were left disappointed by Ronald Araujo’s performance, particularly his involvement in Guirassy’s third goal.
Their discontent is likely amplified by memories of Araujo’s costly red card in last season’s Champions League loss to PSG.
Even though Araujo hasn’t posted on Instagram for a week, fans flocked to his account to vent their anger and demand that he leave the club.
One fan wrote: “It’s always the same. Messing up at important moments.”
Another added: “You are no longer the same Araujo as before, in the big matches you only help the rival team.”
A third replied: “One of the worst Barça defenders of all time.”
A fourth fan questioned: “Why is the lack of confidence always in the big games.”
Another posted: “It’s time for you to leave Barcelona, you almost ruin another knockout match for us, out please.”
After the game, Hansi Flick conceded it had been a tough night for his team despite qualification.
“We had not had one of our better days,” he said via Barcelona.
“We are through the tie and that was our objective. It’s fantastic for the Club to be in the semi-finals. Being in the Champions League semi-finals is a great success and we have to be happy about that.”
