Barcelona to offer PSG Griezmann in swap deal for Neymar

Barcelona to offer Griezmann for Neymar in a part-exchange deal

Barcelona are hoping to strike a part-exchange deal for Neymar that would see Antoine Griezmann join Paris Saint-Germain this summer window.

The Catalan side are prepared to let Griezmann go after just one year to help fund the key signings of Neymar and Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez, as the financial crisis brought on by coronavirus bites at the club.

They are believed to value the Frenchman at £88m (€100m) and will look to sell him elsewhere if neither the forward nor PSG have any interest in such a deal.

But transfers as expensive as these look unlikely, as even the richest sides in Europe count the cost of their operations being postponed amid the coronavirus crisis.

Barca captain Lionel Messi said last week that he and his team-mates had agreed to take a 70 per cent pay cut to help secure the club’s financial stability through the pandemic, while aiming another dig at directors for suggesting the team had been reluctant to do so.

Messi has appeared to clash with the board numerous times over the past few months and was one of several players disappointed not to see Neymar return last summer.

Barca’s efforts to re-sign the Brazil international proved unsuccessful and only Griezmann was added to the front line in a £105m transfer move from Atletico Madrid.

Griezmann believes he still has a future at the Camp Nou, and is said to be taking part in promoting the new Barca kit for next campaign in the near future, but he could fall to fourth or fifth-choice forward should the club manage to land Neymar and Lautaro without his sale, behind Messi and Luis Suarez.

The 29-year-old has scored just eight goals in 26 La Liga games this campaign, plus two more in the Champions League and a further four in other competitions.

Re-signing Messi to a new deal also remains a priority for Barcelona but the Argentine superstar is in no rush, with more than a year left on his current deal.
