Marcus Rashford has already made an impact during his loan spell at Barcelona, and reports suggest the Catalan club has now made a decision regarding a potential permanent move.
After spending the second half of last season at Aston Villa, where he revived his form, Rashford drew the interest of Barcelona — the club he had in mind when he first departed Manchester United on a temporary basis.
The England forward secured a loan move to La Liga over the summer and has continued to impress with the reigning Spanish champions. ..Continue Reading
Under the management of Hansi Flick, Rashford has started two league matches and was also included in the starting XI for Barcelona’s recent Champions League clash against Newcastle United.
He scored both goals in that fixture at St James’ Park, securing a win for his side in their opening group match.
According to Rob Dorsett and Lyall Thomas of Sky Sports, the 27-year-old’s development is being met with enthusiasm from within the club.
“Despite still having three years left on his current deal with Manchester United, Rashford currently looks unlikely to have any future at Old Trafford and is focused on making the best impact he can at Barcelona,” report Dorsett and Thomas.
“Barca are delighted with the progress of Rashford and are said to be very enthusiastic about how he is settling into the club and the city.”
The update comes shortly after an incident in which Rashford was reportedly ‘two minutes late’ for a scheduled meeting.
Although the Spanish side are pleased with his contribution so far, there is no immediate urgency to pursue a permanent deal.
Barcelona are understood to have a €30m purchase option included in the loan deal, and both parties appear aligned on the player’s valuation.
“With his further progress on and off the field and the club’s long-term financial parameters still to consider, triggering that option is not something Barcelona are expected to discuss until the end of the campaign,” according to Sky Sports.
Rashford, who came through the Manchester United academy, was moved out of the squad by head coach Ruben Amorim. The manager’s firm stance on players not in his plans has caused tension with several individuals since taking charge last autumn.
Due to concerns over his commitment — largely fueled by speculation — Rashford was seen as a risky acquisition by some when Villa took him on in January.
However, he silenced critics with key performances under Unai Emery and has carried that form into his current stint in Spain during the 2025-26 season.
