Karim Benzema has made a comeback to Real Madrid, but his long-term future in Saudi Arabia remains uncertain.
The 36-year-old striker left Madrid last summer after a remarkable 14-year stint at the Bernabeu, opting for a free transfer to the Saudi Pro League.

His move to Al Ittihad was accompanied by a lucrative three-year deal, reportedly worth £172 million per season.
However, Benzema’s first season in Saudi Arabia hasn’t gone as planned. Despite his status as the 2022 Ballon d’Or winner, he has managed only 13 goals in 29 games across all competitions—a disappointing return given his substantial salary.
In January, rumors circulated about a potential return to Madrid. Allegedly, Benzema had a falling out with Al Ittihad’s management.
Reports suggested that he engaged in an “angry altercation” with head coach Marcelo Gallardo over his role within the club.
Furthermore, it was claimed that he stormed out of training after refusing to follow the manager’s instructions, resulting in his exclusion from squad activities for a period.
Since rejoining the Madrid squad, Benzema has struggled to find his top form. Earlier this month, he even appeared to place blame on his Al Ittihad teammates for his underwhelming performances.
The situation remains intriguing, and fans are closely monitoring whether Benzema’s return to Real Madrid will lead to a revival of his career or if further challenges lie ahead.
When he was asked why he is not the same player at Real Madrid, Benzema said: “It’s because it’s not the same game.
“It’s not the same players, I need to be helped. I need help on the pitch. I can’t win the game alone. I need a lot of things.”
The Frenchman has now returned to Real Madrid, albeit only on a temporary basis.
He is being treated by his former team for muscular issues, which have ruled him out of Al Ittihad’s last two games.
“Karim Benzema is undergoing further examinations in Real Madrid’s clinic with his former doctor in Spain, who supervised his care in previous years,” Al Ittihad confirmed in a statement.
“The consultations were arranged between Ittihad’s medical teams and Real Madrid regarding Benzema’s injuries, which caused him to miss key matches this season.
“Benzema has already left for Spain and is expected to return next week.”
