Brazil doctor gives injury update on Man Utd star Antony

Brazil’s national team doctor has revealed that Antony will miss Manchester United’s final two games before the World Cup break.

United’s £85m summer signing has missed their last three matches against West Ham United, Real Sociedad and Aston Villa due to a hip injury.

On Monday, Antony was named yesterday in Brazil’s 26-man squad for their World Cup campaign in Qatar that starts later this month.

Brazil start their World Cup run against Serbia on November 24, while Switzerland and Cameroon are also alongside them in Group G.

The Red Devils, meanwhile, play Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup on Thursday, while their final Premier League game before the World Cup hiatus is against Fulham on Sunday.

But Brazil’s team doctor, Rodrigo Lasmar, has confronted that the 22-year-old is not in training with his United teammates.

‘Antony had a small problem in the flexor muscles of the right hip, he is in the recovery process,’ said Lasmar.

‘We’re in contact with the player, with the medical department. He’s in a recovery phase. We have time for him to recover in time to be with us. This week is important, we are talking day by day. This final phase is important.

‘A lot depends on this week. I spoke to him in the morning, he’s feeling better, it’s early. He hasn’t started training with the group yet, he’s in physical therapy.’
