Former Chelsea player Wayne Bridge has urged Timo Werner to take inspiration from Didier Drogba after his mixed start to life at Stamford Bridge.

Werner is currently Chelsea’s joint-top scorer in all competitions this season, tied with Tammy Abraham on 12 as he approaches the end of his first campaign at the London club.

But the Germany international has been guilty of missing a number of big chances for Chelsea throughout the campaign.

With Abraham’s future also in doubt, the blues are reportedly looking to sign a more reliable centre-forward this summer window, with Erling Haaland and Romelu Lukaku linked with moves to the club.

Despite failing to get a goal, Werner impressed against Leicester on Tuesday with former Chelsea left-back Bridge believing the player will find his lethal touch next campaign.

‘I think luck is definitely a factor in Werner’s season,’ Bridge told BettingExpert.com. ‘His attitude is brilliant, the way he’s worked for the team means he has played well. I look back at Drogba’s start at Chelsea and he didn’t hit the ground running and he got there in the end, so I think Werner will get there.

‘He gives defenders nightmares, he’s still a very good player and when something clicks his confidence and attacking instinct will come back and he’ll be finding the back of the net.

‘That will come and he has been a little bit unlucky with his attitude it will click in the end.’

Chelsea have had mixed results with strikers during the Roman Abramovich era with Drogba also enduring a slow start at the Bridge with 10 league goals during his debut season.

The Ivorian eventually became a club legend, scoring 157 goals in 341 matches with Bridge confident Werner will continue to develop into a reliable option in attack.

‘Every player is different and lets form and talk affect them, some people won’t,’ Bridge said.

‘He’s still done well he’s still caused defenders nightmares, his confidence may be knocked a little bit but it’s just going to take a few goals and it’s all going to come together for him.

‘There’s always talk of Chelsea buying strikers but I think he’ll still get lots of chances to play and I think he is going to come good in the end, he’s too good for it not to happen.’
