In the wake of Gyökeres’ incredible performance, Fernandes made his stance clear. The Portuguese midfielder, amid speculation of Gyökeres joining Manchester United, has been closely monitoring the Swedish forward.

Gyökeres, who also scored in Sweden’s 2-1 win over Slovakia earlier in the tournament, shared a series of photos from the match on Instagram with the caption, “Thanks for yesterday.”

Fans were quick to spot that Fernandes had liked the post, hinting at his interest in the prolific striker ahead of a potential move to Old Trafford.

Speculation linking Gyökeres to United began after it was announced that former Sporting CP manager Rúben Amorim would succeed Erik ten Hag at the helm.

During his time at Sporting, Amorim signed Gyökeres from Coventry City for £20 million.

The 26-year-old forward has since tallied an impressive 66 goals and 19 assists in 68 appearances for Sporting, along with 15 international goals for Sweden.

Although a transfer to United isn’t expected in January due to Amorim’s reported commitment not to raid his former club during the winter window, a summer move could still be on the table.

Reports from the Manchester Evening News suggest there is a gentleman’s agreement between Sporting and United, allowing Gyökeres to leave for around £63 million after the season ends.

Given Fernandes’ history with Sporting and his admiration for the club, it’s no surprise he is keeping a close watch on Gyökeres’ progress.

As a former Sporting star, Fernandes is undoubtedly familiar with Gyökeres’ contributions for both club and country, fueling excitement about a possible future collaboration at United.
