Jamie Carragher has stirred up Arsenal fans yet again by criticizing Mikel Arteta’s team for ‘getting carried away’ and excessive celebrating this season.
Earlier this month, Carragher sparked debate by criticizing Martin Odegaard’s enthusiastic celebrations following Arsenal’s 3-1 victory over Liverpool.

The smiling midfielder from Norway was captured absorbing the atmosphere and savoring the moment alongside Arsenal’s official photographer, Stuart MacFarlane, as the Gunners closed the gap to just two points behind Jurgen Klopp’s team at the summit of the Premier League table.
Despite potentially altering the course of this season’s title race, former Liverpool and England defender Carragher was unimpressed and advised the Arsenal captain to ‘simply head down the tunnel’ during Sky Sports’ commentary of the match.
Ian Wright, David Seaman, and Ray Parlour have all responded to Carragher’s remarks, defending Arteta and his players’ right to react the way they did after such a crucial victory.
Arteta himself has joined the discussion, expressing his admiration for the ‘passion and emotion’ displayed in the game in response to Carragher’s critique prior to Arsenal’s 6-0 win against West Ham.
Just when the dispute seemed to be calming down, Carragher sparked controversy again by commending Harry Kane for facing the media following Bayern Munich’s loss to Lazio in the Champions League last-16 first leg.
‘It takes me back to playing with Liverpool,’ Carragher said on CBS Sports.
‘You’re [Micah Richards] saying about it being easy doing press and media when you’re doing well, and I do think when you’re in a situation at a club like that and it’s not going well, I always felt – certainly at the latter end of my career, I was seen as one of the leaders at Liverpool – I always think it’s your job to go out and speak to the press when it’s tough.
‘When things are going well, everyone is getting asked for interviews, everyone can say nice things, everyone’s in a positive mood.
‘But I think it’s really important when the best players and the experienced players always have to come out when it’s tough times.
‘I played for the club, I didn’t play for any managers, I played for the club. ‘I let everyone enjoy the glory when they were winning.’
Ex-Manchester City star Micah Richards, responded by reminding Carragher of his celebrations in the aftermath of Liverpool’s 2005 Champions League win, to which Carragher replied: ‘Well, I mean if I’m allowed one… I’m allowed one aren’t I?
‘I never over-celebrate. There are certain teams in England who do get carried away celebrating.’
‘Here we go again. Arsenal again we’re talking about. Let it go, Jamie,’ Richards hit back, which saw a grinning Carragher respond: ‘Arsenal fans, you’re [Richards] one of them! There’s no escape from these Gooners is there?!’
