Carragher names the Man Utd star who has ‘really impressed’ him this season

Jamie Carragher has expressed that he was ‘very impressed’ by the performance of a Manchester United player in the 3-3 draw against Porto earlier this season.

Rasmus Højlund is finally ‘beginning to show his potential’ after his £72 million transfer to Old Trafford in August 2023.

Højlund scored in United’s 3-3 Europa League match against Porto this month and followed it up with a goal in their 2-1 win over Brentford on Saturday.

Although these are Højlund’s only two goals this season, he has made just six appearances due to a hamstring injury.

‘Hojlund, I think he’s starting to look a player,’ Carragher told Sky Sports. ‘I was really impressed with him in Porto a couple of weeks ago, he put a real shift in.

‘There’s real talent in the front three, but the man who gets the winning goal, I think he’s starting to look a player.’

Speaking more generally about Man United’s front three, Carragher added: ‘We talk about Marcus Rashford being better suited on the left, but he played on the right [against Brentford] and I think it’s one of his best games we’ve seen.

‘Garnacho on the left side scores a great goal. I think the combination of that front three is maybe something that can keep them going.’

Dimitar Berbatov, meanwhile, has told Hojlund to get ‘angry’ ahead of Thursday’s Europa League game against Fenerbahce.

‘I think as a striker he needs to be more demanding and arguing,’ Berbatov said on Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube channel.

‘Not being so nice and just pushing the buttons of some of the players around him.

‘Like give me the ball, asking for the ball, when the ball is not coming because I can see that he was doing some runs behind the defence and then nobody was seeing him.

‘That should make you angry, you have a point to be angry after this one.’
