Antonio Cassano hits out at Romelu Lukaku & Chelsea ahead of £100m transfer

Antonio Cassano has questioned Romelu Lukaku’s motives for returning to Chelsea, a club who showed him lack of respect in the past.

The Belgian attacker has resurrected his career in Seire A, leading Inter Milan’s attack during last season’s title-winning campaign.

Lukaku had previously been deemed surplus to requirements by Solskjaer at Manchester United having failed to make the team at Chelsea under Jose Mourinho.

Thomas Tuchel is keen to sign a prolific striker, and it has led Chelsea to make a bid for the player and, after a number of unsuccessful attempts, the Blues now look set to conclude a deal with an offer of £110m.

Cassano believes Lukaku is simply leaving the club for money and cannot comprehend why he would want to return to the Premier League after several tough experiences in England.

‘If this is really how much they are offering, I’d take him there personally,’ said lifelong Inter supporter and retired forward Cassano on Twitch.

‘Having said that, I want to figure out what’s going on here. He had two really bad experiences in England, one decent one with Everton, and he wants to go back there.

‘I have to ask myself, why go back to a club that didn’t appreciate you? Is it for money?’

Tuchel, meanwhile, watched his team blow a two-goal lead against Spurs last night, after which he was quizzed over the likelihood of Lukaku returning to London.

‘I will not talk about players who don’t play in my squad,’ the German coach replied when asked about the possibility of Lukaku returning to Chelsea.

‘Romelu Lukaku is a fantastic player but he’s a player from Inter and with all due respect, I will not talk about him in this situation.’
