With aspirations to secure their 15th Champions League title, Madrid is set to face Borussia Dortmund in the anticipated final showdown at Wembley on June 1.
Following Madrid’s triumphant campaign to the final, reports have surfaced that Chelsea, a Premier League heavyweight, has been rewarded with a £5 million bonus.
According to The Telegraph, the windfall stems from Eden Hazard’s high-profile move to Madrid in 2019, a deal that enriched Stamford Bridge’s coffers by £130 million, inclusive of over £40 million in potential bonuses.
Although Hazard’s contract with Madrid was dissolved last summer, it is understood that the financial clauses of his original transfer continue to be enforceable.
Hazard, the celebrated Belgian footballer, hung up his boots in October 2023, concluding his professional career at the age of 32.
In a statement, the Belgian said: “You must listen to yourself and say stop at the right time. After 16 years and more than 700 matches played, have decided to end my career as a professional footballer.
“I was able to realise my dream, I have played and had fun on many pitches around the world. During my career I was lucky to meet great managers, coaches and teammates – thank you to everyone for these great times, will miss you all.”
Hazard added: “I also want to thank the clubs I have played for: LOSC, Chelsea and Real Madrid; and thank the RBFA for my Belgian Selection.”
Throughout his illustrious career, Hazard graced the pitch in 635 club matches across various tournaments, netting a total of 168 goals.
Representing Belgium on the global football scene, Hazard earned 126 caps and found the back of the net 33 times.
