Chelsea agree €21m deal to sell forgotten player who played just 28 minutes for the club

Chelsea have decided to sell a player just a year after signing him, and the Premier League is displeased.

During the summer 2024/25 transfer window, the Blues have been active, bringing in players like Pedro Neto, Joao Felix, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

New manager Enzo Maresca has been blunt in his assessments since taking charge, openly criticizing the size of the squad and stating that some players will be left out of games and should consider finding new clubs.

Now, it seems one of these players has secured a move away from Chelsea, but fans are unhappy as the details of the transfer emerge.

According to a report from L’Equipe, Chelsea have agreed to sell Deivid Washington to RC Strasbourg, a Ligue 1 club, in a deal that will break Strasbourg’s transfer record.

Chelsea will receive €21 million for the sale, just 12 months after paying €16 million to Brazilian club Santos to bring the young forward to Stamford Bridge on a seven-year contract with an option for an additional year.

However, fans are upset with the deal, as Strasbourg is co-owned by BlueCo, the same group that owns Chelsea.

Reacting to the news on X, one fan said: “They bought him for €16m in 23/24, played him 25 minutes across 3 separate games, flipped him for €21m a year later, which means that for the period of the 24/25 season they registered a profit of €13m on him. Hello?”

Another added: “When are regulators going to police these financial shenanigans properly? Too scared to take on the biggest clubs but happy to sanction smaller clubs.”

While one stated: “If Chelsea get away with all this then the games gone.”

And another joked: “This has to be looked at surely. There’s going to be some Gus Fring figure lurking in a a lab in New Mexico rubbing his hands together.”

Washington spent most of the 2023-2024 camping playing for Chelsea’s U21 team, where he scored six goals in 11 games.

Another player that is looking for a move after becoming out of favour with Maresca, is Raheem Sterling who could be set to sign for Arsenal on deadline day.
