Chelsea chiefs ‘in agreement on Pochettino sacking’ after Brighton win

Chelsea’s top brass now believe that dismissing Mauricio Pochettino during the off-season could be detrimental and have reconsidered their decision to let go of the head coach.

Despite enduring a challenging season, the Argentine is expected to receive support to guide the team through a significant transformation at Stamford Bridge.

Pochettino’s tenure seemed doomed following a loss to Liverpool in February’s League Cup final. However, a resurgence in the team’s performance has mitigated some of the season’s earlier setbacks.

The 52-year-old coach’s strategies are starting to resonate with the youthful team, bolstered by the standout play of newcomer Cole Palmer. Palmer’s 22nd goal in the Premier League contributed to a 2-1 victory against Brighton on Wednesday, marking a notable improvement.

The Guardian reports that Pochettino enjoys backing from influential members of the Stamford Bridge leadership, despite some considering his dismissal just weeks prior.

Last summer, the BlueCo consortium brought in Pochettino as manager after cycling through three managers in the preceding year, including the temporary tenure of Frank Lampard.

The most public sign that Pochettino will remain as manager came when Todd Boehly told a finance conference last week that Chelsea needed to be ‘patient’. “The No 1 thing is you have got to be patient,” the American said.

“You are putting something together and expecting it to come together really quickly, and the reality is anything really good takes a little bit of time. And so I think patience was always a thought.”

Pochettino, who had previously said he could quit of his own accord, has revealed that he is involved in discussions with the club’s owners over planning for next campaign.

The former Tottenham boss is set to oversee a busy summer transfer window with improvements likely to be made to his team.

“We are planning,” Pochettino said. “We are working. I think we cannot take some comment from [me and] put in a negative way because I always try to be positive to try and translate my feelings to you and the people.

“But I never say that we were not thinking in the future. We are thinking in the future. The plan is there to start the pre-season, the data and everything, how we are going to start and then it is not in my hands to be here or not to be here.”

Chelsea are in an advantageous position to qualify for European competition for next campaign on the last day of the Premier League season. They sit in sixth, which will guarantee them at least a Conference League spot.
