Chelsea respond to Aston Villa approach for Gallagher

Chelsea has set a price tag of £50 million for Conor Gallagher after receiving interest from Aston Villa.

With only one year remaining on his contract at Chelsea, the club is determined not to let him go for free next summer.

While Gallagher hasn’t shown a desire to depart Stamford Bridge, Chelsea could benefit financially from his sale this summer, aiding compliance with the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules.

Aston Villa has expressed interest in Gallagher, hoping to finalize a deal swiftly, especially considering Tottenham’s prior interest.

Chelsea insists on a £50m valuation for Gallagher. Reports from The Guardian suggest that Villa might propose including forward Jhon Duran in the transaction to meet this valuation.

Previously eyed by Chelsea, Duran, the 20-year-old Colombian international with eight national team appearances, transferred to Villa from Chicago Fire for £18m in January 2023 and netted eight goals in his debut Premier League season.

In other news, Gallagher has expressed his approval of Chelsea’s decision to appoint Enzo Maresca as the successor to Mauricio Pochettino.

‘Really exciting,’ Gallagher said of Maresca’s arrival. ‘I’ve heard really good things and I’ve seen really good things.

‘Myself and everyone at Chelsea are really happy and excited to work with him.’

When asked if Maresca’s appointment represents a new start for Chelsea, Gallagher said: ‘Yeah, exactly. ‘We want to get Chelsea back to where they belong.

‘So hopefully with the new manager we can start to progress and get to where we belong
