Gittens, a 20-year-old England U21 international, has emerged as their primary target for the left wing.
According to multiple reports, including from David Ornstein and Sky Sports, Chelsea and Dortmund are in advanced negotiations, with the deal now in its final stages.
Gittens has already agreed to personal terms on a seven-year contract and is said to be fully committed to joining the London club.
Chelsea initially attempted to secure the transfer before the start of the Club World Cup, but their £42 million offer was turned down. Dortmund are reportedly holding out for a fee closer to £50 million.
Talks have continued during the tournament, with both clubs still competing in the knockout rounds.
If the move is completed, Gittens would become Chelsea’s sixth signing of the summer, joining Liam Delap, Estevão Willian, Dario Essugo, Mamadou Sarr, and Kendry Páez.
Delap, who arrived from Ipswich Town for £30 million, is expected to compete for the No. 9 role, while Gittens would bolster the flanks.
Chelsea are also exploring further reinforcements, particularly in goal. Their pursuit of AC Milan’s Mike Maignan stalled due to a disagreement over valuation, but the club remains in the market for a new goalkeeper.
With Gittens close to arriving and other targets still in play, Chelsea’s summer rebuild under Maresca is gathering serious momentum.
