Jadon Sancho’s summer transfer from Manchester United to Chelsea is “completely finalized,” according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.
He disclosed that Chelsea’s obligation to buy will be activated if they finish in the top 14 of the Premier League standings.
Sancho’s future at Manchester United was uncertain after he returned from a half-season loan at Borussia Dortmund, following a public dispute with Erik ten Hag.
Although the 24-year-old participated regularly in United’s pre-season, he was excluded from their first two Premier League matches, indicating his decline in the team hierarchy.
Originally, there was talk of a swap deal involving Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling, but negotiations faded after Arsenal showed interest.
Instead, Sancho secured a season-long loan with United, and now he’s poised to join Enzo Maresca’s already crowded squad in London.
Romano, posting on X (formerly Twitter), confirmed that Sancho’s transfer to Stamford Bridge is complete. The deal includes a loan with an obligation to buy, contingent on Chelsea finishing in the top 14, with the purchase fee expected to be between £20 and £25 million, depending on performance-related bonuses.
“Jadon Sancho, Chelsea and Man Utd signed all docs in time as deal is 100% done. Loan with obligation to buy guaranteed, formally if CFC will finish among first 14 position in PL table. Fee starts from £20m guaranteed up to £25m in add-ons based on performances.”
James Ducker of The Telegraph took to X to reveal that the purchase fee will be dependent on where the west London side reside in the standings come the end of the current season; the higher the finish, the higher the fee.
Key Statistic: Sancho’s 12 dribbles vs PSG were the most completed by an English player in a UEFA Champions League game since 2003/04.
Former Manchester City and Liverpool player Raheem Sterling, along with Trevoh Chalobah and Ben Chilwell, was removed from Enzo Maresca’s first-team squad last week and told to find a new club before the transfer window closed.
Though Crystal Palace and Manchester United showed interest, it was Arsenal who managed to secure a last-minute deal for the experienced Premier League winger.
Mikel Arteta’s team is determined to challenge Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City for the title this season, and Sterling—who has 123 goals and 62 assists in 379 Premier League appearances—could be a key addition to their campaign.
According to journalist Miguel Delaney, Arsenal will not pay a loan fee to Chelsea for Sterling’s season-long stay, and they are expected to cover less than 50% of his £325,000-per-week wages.
