After guiding the team back into the Champions League in his debut year, Enzo Maresca has earned the board’s trust to continue building on that success. ..Continue Reading
Despite progress elsewhere, the left-wing position remains a weak spot. Jadon Sancho has returned to Manchester United after his loan spell, and Mykhailo Mudryk is currently facing disciplinary action from the FA.
Maresca has openly acknowledged the need for reinforcements on the wing and expressed confidence that a signing would be completed soon.
Jamie Gittens has consistently been identified as a priority target, having already agreed to personal terms on a long-term deal before the initial transfer deadline.
Chelsea have not been discouraged by Bayern Munich’s pursuit of the player and are now in a strong position to finalize the transfer.
According to journalist David Ornstein, negotiations between Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund are progressing well in the U.S., with a resolution expected very soon.
He said to The Athletic: “A situation that could be resolved imminently features Borussia Dortmund’s English forward Jamie Gittens.
“Chelsea were unable to finalise a deal with the Bundesliga club for the 20-year-old before the closing of the pre-Club World Cup transfer window earlier this month.
“But despite that delay, talks have continued and there is hope an agreement can be reached swiftly, irrespective of suggestions Bayern Munich are also keen on Gittens.
“The former Manchester City player favours a move to Stamford Bridge and has remained fully committed to the idea of joining Enzo Maresca’s side. There is already an agreement in place between Gittens and Chelsea, with a seven-year contract ready to go when a club-to-club deal is reached.”
Many had anticipated that Chelsea would finalize the signing of Gittens in time for him to feature in their Club World Cup squad, but the move didn’t materialize as expected.
The club reportedly felt that inflated demands—dubbed a “Club World Cup tax”—were affecting negotiations, which also played a role in their decision to walk away from a deal for Mike Maignan.
Despite the delays, Chelsea remained confident that Borussia Dortmund would eventually agree to part ways with Gittens, and it now appears they’ve stayed patient and are close to securing the transfer on favorable terms.
This approach reflects positively on the club’s current transfer strategy, with Todd Boehly showing a firm stance against being pressured into overpaying by rival clubs.
