While the 24-year-old winger has shown flashes of his ability during his loan spell, his overall performances have been underwhelming, with just two goals and six assists in 28 appearances across all competitions.
Under the terms of the loan agreement, Chelsea is obligated to finalize Sancho’s transfer if they finish above 15th in the Premier League—a condition they are expected to meet comfortably under Enzo Maresca.
However, questions arose over whether the club might seek a way out of the deal due to the lack of a long-term contract agreement with Sancho before his move.
As a result, new negotiations are required to complete the transfer. If Chelsea fails to reach an agreement with Sancho, they have the option to send him back to Manchester United, but this could result in significant financial consequences.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, such a decision would involve reimbursing United for Sancho’s wages during the loan, along with additional costs—making this scenario unlikely.
Instead, Chelsea is likely to move forward with the permanent transfer.
The total fee for the deal could rise to €30 million, influenced by the club’s final league position this season.
Jacobs has noted that Chelsea seems pleased with Sancho’s contributions thus far, suggesting it would be unexpected for the club to abandon the transfer.
