In recent seasons, Chelsea have made headlines for their aggressive spending, bringing in talent from around the globe with eye-watering transfer fees. ..Continue Reading
Even though Enzo Maresca voiced concerns over the oversized squad when he took charge last summer, the Blues have kept adding names to the roster in recent weeks.
The latest to join is promising defender Jorrel Hato, who signed from Ajax on Sunday in a deal worth £35.5 million plus bonuses, marking Chelsea’s 39th signing in four years.
To clear space for Hato and other new arrivals, Chelsea appear ready to offload several players who’ve now been scrubbed from the site’s first-team listings.
Among those missing is Raheem Sterling, whose profile and image are nowhere to be found on Chelsea’s updated squad page.
Sterling, a former standout at Liverpool and Manchester City, moved to Chelsea in July 2022 on a five-year deal costing £47.5 million.
However, the move hasn’t panned out, and after being deemed surplus to requirements by Maresca, Sterling spent last season on loan at London rivals Arsenal.
Ben Chilwell, another loanee from last season, also appears to have been quietly dropped from the first-team roster.
Striker Armando Broja and midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu are likewise absent, along with homegrown talent Alfie Gilchrist, as all three are expected to be sold—Broja likely heading to Burnley.
Notably, seven of the missing players (excluding Broja and Gilchrist) together cost Chelsea well over £200 million in total transfer fees.
Other names no longer listed include Axel Disasi, Carney Chukwuemeka, Renato Veiga, and David Datro Fofana.
Curiously, winger Mykhailo Mudryk—who’s facing a potential four-year ban after being charged with doping violations by the FA—remains featured on the website, still pictured in last season’s kit.
