Chelsea face possible transfer ban after breaking FIFA rules

Chelsea are sweating over the possibility of being given a two-year transfer ban for signing 14 youth players illegally, according to reports.

FIFA have been investigating Chelsea’s recruitment of underage minors since it was revealed that Bertrand Traore was signed before his 18th birthday in 2014.

And now The Times report that a judgement from FIFA’s Integrity and Compliance has recommended that Chelsea be banned for four transfer windows after 13 further offences.

Chelsea face a one-window ban over the signing of Traore, as well as three further transfer windows for the other players.

It is reported that Traore played 25 games for Chelsea at under-16 and under-18 level without being registered.

Traore – who currently plays for Lyon after leaving Chelsea in a £8.8m deal – also agreed a four-and-a-half year deal with the Blues despite being under 18.

FIFA confirmed they were investigating Chelsea in September 2017, though a club spokesman said the club ‘complies with all FIFA Statutes and Regulations when recruiting players’.
