Mount limped off the field just 12 minutes into Sunday’s Manchester derby, prompting James—who has also dealt with injuries and limited playtime this season—to show his support for his former teammate with an Instagram story, urging Mount to “stay strong” during this challenging time. ..Continue Reading
CFCDaily posted James’ story on X, writing: “Reece James on Instagram offering support to Mason Mount after his latest setback. #cfc”
cfcg3orge replied: “Strip of captaincy”, with a baffled CFCDaily responding: “For wishing a friend…well?”
Another user, Big_ralph22, wrote: “We don’t pity snake here”
twrIdd added: “why the f*ck is he supporting a united player?”
Meanwhile, Edenn50 added: “The reaction to this sums up individuals in this fanbase”
The angry reaction from Chelsea fans was caused by James writing to Mount: “Not many people understand what your going through but I have lived disappointment after disappointment after disappointment. It’s real tough and lonely man! Speedy recovery and Stay strong brother! I have 0 doubts you’ll be back to your best!”
The last time Mount completed a full 90 minutes in a Premier League match was in January 2023, highlighting his unfortunate run of injuries since his transfer last summer.
The 25-year-old is currently undergoing treatment again, and his England teammate James is also battling persistent hamstring issues. Both aim to return to action early next year.
While Enzo Maresca is eager to have James back on the field, Chelsea’s depth has allowed the team to perform well without their captain.
If Spurs triumph over Liverpool and Chelsea defeat Everton on Sunday, the Blues will head into Christmas atop the Premier League table.
Few anticipated that Maresca’s Chelsea would be performing so strongly this early in the season.
