Chelsea have reportedly sought clarification over a possible release clause in Timo Werner’s contract as they look to add to their squad in the January window.
There have been wide ranging reports over a clause in the German’s contract, which has been believed to be as low as £25.6m and as high as £51.2m.
Red Bull Leipzig forward Werner is one of several forwards and wingers on Chelsea’s shortlist, with the club able to dip into the transfer market again after their transfer ban ended and set to spend.
And they have begun enquiries to get a clear picture of how much Werner is available for as they look to lure him to Stamford Bridge.
However, RB Leipzig are determined to keep their prized asset, who has scored 18 goals in 17 league games this season while also providing six assists.
The German club sit top of the Bundesliga and have a mouth-watering Champions League clash with Tottenham to look forward to.
Other possible options include Lyon striker Dembele, Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho, Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha, Leon Bailey and Villarreal’s Chukwueze.
The Germany international can play out wide as well as through the middle, which would suit the blues.
Chelsea scouts have watched Leipzig on several occasions this campaign with Ethan Ampadu on loan with the Germans and there may well be discussions over the teenager’s future, as he has played only five games in total.
Chelsea have the option of offering either Olivier Giroud or Batshuayi to teams as part of a deal for a forward in the January window.
