Chelsea ready to offload Hakim Ziyech in January as Dortmund line up deal

Hakim Ziyech looks set to leave Chelsea on loan in January, with Dortmund interested in landing the player who has featured just ten times for Thomas Tuchel this campaign.

Tuchel was already considering letting Ziyech leave before the end of the August window but a transfer move did not materialise.

Dortmund were one of the teams interested in signing the former Ajax attacker, 28, when Chelsea paid £33.3m for him in the summer of 2020.

Ziyech now has three years remaining on his deal at Stamford Bridge, making a loan deal the likely option. And the Bundesliga club are likely to be joined by other teams in January looking to sign him.

Tuchel has preferred to hand more minutes to Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who were both loaned out under Frank Lampard last campaign, over the Moroccan.

He had a disappointing debut season for Chelsea last term, registering six goals and four assists from 39 matches.

Ziyech scored the opening goal in the London club’s Super Cup triumph over Villarreal in August before injuring his shoulder.

But since returning from injury he has started just two Premier League matches before hitting the winning goal against Malmo in the UEFA Champions League earlier this month.

The Blues are currently sitting three points clear of title rivals Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.

They next face a trip to Leicester at the King Power Stadium after the current international break.
