Chelsea keen on re-signing player they let join PSG for free

Chelsea are reportedly interested in re-signing Marcin Bulka, the goalkeeper who left for Paris Saint-Germain without a transfer fee five years ago.

Initially part of Chelsea’s youth setup after his transfer from the Polish club Escola Varsovia, Bulka didn’t make it to the senior team and moved to PSG when his contract ended in 2019.

His stint at PSG was marked by limited playtime, leading the 24-year-old to transfer to Nice in 2022, seeking more consistent playtime.

Bulka’s performance improved significantly at Nice, where he became the first-choice goalkeeper last season, contributing to the team’s impressive defensive record—the best in their league and fourth across Europe’s major leagues.

Despite his success, contract negotiations at Nice have stalled, with reports from L’Equipe suggesting Bulka is demanding a salary quadruple his current €55,000 monthly wage—a figure Nice is unwilling to meet.

Both Chelsea and AC Milan are monitoring Bulka’s situation, eyeing a potential move during the summer transfer window, especially since his contract with Nice is valid until 2026.

As Chelsea prepares for the 2024/25 season, they’re looking to bolster their goalkeeping lineup, which last season saw Robert Sanchez and Dorde Petrovic vying for playtime.

Kepa Arrizabalaga is expected to return from his loan at Real Madrid, but his permanent departure from Chelsea seems likely.

Chelsea has also considered several English goalkeepers—Jordan Pickford, James Trafford, and Aaron Ramsdale—as potential recruits. Additionally, Villarreal’s Filip Jorgensen has expressed his honor at being associated with a move to Chelsea.

‘It is fun. It shows that I have done something good and done it well,’ Jorgensen told Danish publication Tipsbladet.

‘It is hard to say [about his future]. I just want to get better every day and do the best I can. There is no definite plan.

‘If something good comes up, we can talk about it and look at what is best for me, for Villarreal and everyone involved.’
