Chelsea respond to Barcelona and Atletico’s £35m offers for Willian

Chelsea have rejected £35million offers from Spanish giants Barcelona and Atletico Madrid for Brazilian international Willian Borges, according to reports.

Willian has played almost 300 matches for Chelsea since signing from Anzhi Makhachkala in 2013.

While not always a regular in the blues starting line up, Willian has helped Chelsea win two Premier League titles, the Europa League, FA Cup and EFL Cup during his time at the club.

The Brazilian’s current deal expires next year and Chelsea are keen to keep hold of him this summer window despite the prospect of losing the player for free in 12 months’ time.

That is because they have been hit by a transfer ban and are already attempting to cope with the exit of Eden Hazard, who completed a dream move to Real Madrid earlier in the month.

Barcelona attempted to sign Willian last summer and it is now reported that the Spanish giants have now revived their interest and tabled a bid worth £35m.

However, That offer was matched by La Liga rivals Atletico but it is claimed Chelsea have turned down both offers.

Willian, for his part, is believed to be interested in staying at Chelsea and sign a new two-year contract with the club.

There remains much uncertainty at Stamford Bridge, following the exit of Maurizio Sarri, who has joined Juventus after spending just a year in west London.

Sarri helped Chelsea to a Europa League win and a third-place finish in the Premier League but left much to the relief of the majority of Blues supporters.

Frank Lampard, who enjoyed a remarkable career at Chelsea, is the leading person to replace Sarri having impressed at Derby County last campaign.

Derby reached the Championship play-off final under Frank Lampard but were beaten at Wembley by Aston Villa.
