At that point, it was confirmed that the Dutch forward would arrive at Stamford Bridge in 2026.
A statement released at the time said: “Chelsea Football Club has agreed a deal to sign striker Emmanuel Emegha from Ligue 1 side RC Strasbourg, with the Dutchman officially joining in 2026.
“Emegha, 22, scored 14 goals and provided three assists in 27 appearances in Ligue 1 last season, earning him recognition as one of the most exciting young forwards in Europe.”
Emegha made the switch to Strasbourg from Austrian club Sturm Graz in 2023 for a fee believed to be around €13 million.
This summer, following the exit of Habib Diarra, the 22-year-old was appointed club captain.
However, on Wednesday Strasbourg announced that Emegha had been suspended ahead of their Ligue 1 clash with Toulouse.
Although Strasbourg did not reveal the precise cause of the suspension, their official statement read: “RC Strasbourg Alsace have decided to suspend Emanuel Emegha for the next Ligue 1 Match, this Saturday at Toulouse.
“This decision was taken after the player recently failed not respect the values and expectations set in the club’s rules. Le Racing reaffirms its commitment to its key principles of exemplarity and respect for the collective.”
The club then added: “Emanuel remains an important member of the team, who has always given everything on the pitch. He will be reintegrated into the squad after this match. No further comment will be made.”
Up to this point in the 25/26 campaign, Emegha has recorded seven goals and two assists in 11 appearances in all competitions.
Despite a strong start statistically, he has faced backlash from supporters recently due to remarks he made about Strasbourg.
According to Get Football News France, Emegha recently stated: “To be honest, I didn’t even know where that (Strasbourg) was. I thought it was in Germany, but it turned out to be in France. Well, I think everyone knows Strasbourg now.”
