The Dutch defender hit top speed just before halftime while chasing down United’s winger Alejandro Garnacho. Remarkably, Van de Ven is the only defender among the top 10 fastest players, with the rest of the list dominated by forwards.
In second place is Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga, who reached 22.30 mph, followed closely by Manchester City’s Erling Haaland at 22.21 mph.
Two Manchester United players also made the list, with Garnacho placing sixth (22.04 mph) and Marcus Rashford securing the tenth spot (21.97 mph).
Others on the list include Timo Werner, Gabriel Martinelli, Cameron Archer, Pedro Neto, and Yankuba Minteh.
Van de Ven’s ranking at the top isn’t too surprising, considering he also holds several top spots in the all-time Premier League speed records since data collection began in 2020-21. He set the record in a match against Brentford last season, clocking in at 23.23 mph.
The only player who comes close to Van de Ven’s pace is Manchester City’s Kyle Walker, who holds the second-fastest all-time speed of 23.18 mph.
Chiedozie Ogbene, who reached 22.95 mph while playing for Luton Town last season, now ranks fifth, having transferred to Ipswich Town in the summer.
Elanga and Neto are joined in the broader top-speed rankings by players like Jakub Moder, Dominik Szoboszlai, Dara O’Shea, Antonio Rudiger, and Brennan Johnson.
