Poor defending from Spurs gave Joao Pedro the chance to score in the first half of the London derby, and although Chelsea couldn’t add to their lead, they walked away with a deserved win. ..Continue Reading
Pedro Neto played a role in the build-up to the goal but had a relatively quiet game before being replaced by Estevao in the 85th minute.
Still, Chelsea fans applauded the winger’s presence on the bench, as Neto was caught on camera provoking Tottenham fans in a strange and amusing way during injury time.
In viral footage circulating on social media, the Portugal international and teammate Wesley Fofana, who had also been substituted, were seen in the dugout appearing to protest a referee’s call.
Tottenham supporters behind them angrily demanded the players sit down, prompting Neto to turn and reportedly shout: “F*** you,” twice.
He then laughed and stuck his tongue out dramatically before sitting down again, drawing more jeers from the Spurs faithful.
A regular contributor under Enzo Maresca, Neto has tallied 22 goal contributions in 65 appearances since his move to Stamford Bridge from Wolves last year in a deal worth approximately £52million.
Fans were thrilled by the 25-year-old’s antics during the derby, with one Chelsea supporter writing on Twitter: “This is the funniest video on the internet.”
“My new favourite player,” another commented, while on Reddit, several fans simply posted: “Proper Chels.”
“The full video is killing me, Netos rage bait, [Malo] Gusto holding his laugh and Josh [Acheampong] seemingly catching a stray at the end,” another added.
Meanwhile, Tottenham fans were equally upset with their team’s poor home showing, a sentiment Thomas Frank said he “100 per cent” understands.
“We all sense the frustration and the emotions. That is part of football,” the manager said during his post-match remarks.
“It is extremely painful and of course that is part of the job to face you guys now and answer the very good questions when you just are burning inside.
“And you like to find solutions, watch the game back and see what went wrong, but I think it’s about trying to stay calm. In general, I think Chelsea were good and we were definitely second best.”
The win lifts Chelsea to fifth in the Premier League table, level on points with Spurs. Next up for Maresca’s side is a trip to Qarabag in the Champions League on Wednesday.
