Chelsea star to be named Premier League’s dirtiest player for second time in three years

Leading the Premier League in fouls this season is Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher, who has been called for infractions 82 times across 36 matches.

The 24-year-old midfielder stands 18 fouls ahead of anyone else as the season approaches its final set of games.

Wolves’ Joao Gomes is in second place with 64 fouls, followed by Ryan Yates of Nottingham Forest with 54.

Additionally, there are nine players who have racked up 50 or more fouls, among them are Tottenham’s Dejan Kulusevski and Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister, both with 53, and Bournemouth’s Justin Kluivert with 52.

Ryan Yates (Nottingham Forest) – 54 fouls

Conor Gallagher is on track to finish the season as the Premier League’s most penalized player, marking the second occasion in three years he’s earned this distinction.

Previously, he led the foul count in the 2021/22 season with 65 fouls. The following season, Joelinton and Moises Caicedo jointly held the title, each with 65 fouls.

Reliable records of Premier League fouls have been maintained since the 2006/07 season. The all-time high for a single season since then belongs to ex-Bolton forward Kevin Davies, who committed 123 fouls in the 2010/11 season.

Most fouls recorded by a player in a Premier League season
Kevin Davies – 123 fouls in 2010/11
Kevin Davies – 121 fouls in 2009/10
Kevin Davies – 117 fouls in 2008/09
Marouane Fellaini – 111 fouls in 2008/09
John Carew – 100 fouls in 2007/08

In recent times, the Premier League has seen a reduction in on-field infractions, with no player breaching the 100-foul threshold in the past ten years.

Yet, Conor Gallagher’s count of 82 fouls this season is the most recorded in quite some time, equaling Grant Holt’s tally from the 2012/13 season.

Gallagher’s infractions have resulted in him receiving seven yellow cards and one red card so far this campaign.
