Now, it seems that James may finally be considering a shift in his career towards Spain.
According to Football Transfers, his agent has reached out to Barcelona and SL Benfica, as the defender is contemplating leaving Chelsea.
One reason for this potential move is James’ recurring muscle injuries, which have been a persistent problem during his time at Chelsea.
He missed 129 games for the club due to injury, appeared in just ten league matches last season, and has yet to play this season.
Medical experts have suggested that relocating to a warmer climate, such as Spain or Portugal, could help alleviate these ongoing issues.
This is where Barcelona becomes a potential destination. The club sees James as a solution to their right-back problem, which would also allow Jules Kounde to play in his preferred center-back role. James’ leadership and versatility would make him a valuable asset to the Catalan side.
However, his injury history raises concerns, and any move from Chelsea would likely be expensive, given that James is still considered one of England’s top right-backs.
