Former Atletico Madrid player Kieran Trippier has encouraged Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher to think about moving to Spain this summer, according to reports.
Gallagher captained Chelsea for most of the 2023-24 season in Reece James’ absence and played a crucial role in midfield under Mauricio Pochettino.

However, the 24-year-old has only one year remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge and might leave the club this summer.
Tottenham is interested in transferring Gallagher to north London, but Atletico also wants to sign him before the new season begins.
AS reports that Atletico has support in convincing Gallagher to leave England from his England teammate Trippier, who spent two-and-a-half years at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Trippier excelled under Diego Simeone in Madrid, helping Atletico win the Spanish title in 2021 before returning to England to join Newcastle United the following year.
AS reports that Trippier has spoken ‘very highly of Atletico’ in his conversations with Gallagher, advising him to consider the move.
Atletico has already had a €20m offer rejected by Chelsea this summer.
Gallagher is currently on holiday after England’s Euro 2024 final loss, seen at the All-Ireland hurling final between Cork and Clare on Sunday with his partner Áine May Kennedy.
Tottenham and Aston Villa are also interested in signing the midfielder, who recently praised former Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino for his development last season.
‘I think I’ve come a long way this season. I give a lot of credit to Pochettino and for what he’s done for me. He gave me responsibility and trust at Chelsea and, I think like I said, it puts me in a better position to be a bigger part of the squad for this tournament. I’m going to do everything I can to help the team as much as possible.’
Gallagher added: ‘He’s [Pochettino] done so much for me so I was sad for him and sad for the coaching staff.
‘But I’m really excited about the new manager [Enzo Maresca] coming in and myself and everyone at Chelsea are really excited to work with him.’
