Mudryk’s absence was reportedly “at least partly” due to illness, with his last appearance for Chelsea being at the end of November against Heidenheim in the Europa Conference League.
Now, Mudryk faces an extended period out of action after being provisionally suspended following a positive drugs test.
The forward is currently unable to play or train with the Blues as he awaits the results of a ‘B’ sample. Mudryk expressed his shock at testing positive and has reportedly hired the same law firm that represented Paul Pogba in his appeal against a doping ban.
Pogba recently had his four-year suspension reduced to 18 months on appeal.
Mudryk’s positive test showed traces of the banned performance-enhancing substance meldonium. Under Football Association rules, he could potentially face a four-year ban from football.
Since moving to Chelsea in 2023, Mudryk has struggled to make a significant impact and justify the hefty fee paid to secure his transfer over Arsenal.
His future now hangs in the balance as he awaits the outcome of his positive test and whether it will result in a lengthy ban from the sport.
