Sterling joined Arsenal on deadline day during the summer transfer window after being sidelined at Stamford Bridge following Enzo Maresca’s arrival.
Although his move reunited him with Mikel Arteta, it hasn’t unfolded as expected.
Despite Arsenal dealing with injury woes, the 30-year-old has played a minimal role, making only four Premier League starts and logging just 954 minutes across all competitions.
Due to his limited contributions, Arsenal has decided against making the move permanent, meaning Sterling will return to Chelsea after the season ends.
However, a fresh chapter at Stamford Bridge isn’t in the cards either. Despite Chelsea’s goal-scoring struggles, Maresca is not planning to bring Sterling back into the squad, shifting the club’s focus to finding a permanent transfer.
As reported by The Athletic, Chelsea has dismissed the possibilities of another loan move or a contract buyout, leaving a transfer as the only option.
Sterling has two years left on his deal, and Chelsea is collaborating with his representatives to secure a new destination.
While Saudi clubs have been suggested, Chelsea remains optimistic about arranging a move to a European club, despite Sterling’s substantial wages.
Although Arsenal initially seemed a long-term solution, Arteta’s decision to move on from the winger rules out a return to the Emirates.
