However, the transfer from Napoli to Chelsea didn’t materialize, and instead, the forward secured a season-long loan with Galatasaray. Clubs like Al-Ahli from the Saudi Pro League and PSG had also shown interest in signing him.
Since joining Galatasaray, he has hit the ground running, scoring twice and providing two assists in his first three games. Despite this, rumors are growing that the 25-year-old could soon be on the move again.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Galatasaray are interested in making his move from Napoli permanent, though Chelsea are expected to provide strong competition.
When he joined Galatasaray, his €130 million (£109 million) release clause expired, and he will be available for €81 million (£68 million) in the January transfer window, with the price dropping further to €75 million (£63 million) next summer.
This reduced buyout clause won’t apply to Serie A clubs in January, meaning Chelsea could seize the opportunity when the transfer window opens.
Reports suggest that he is still eager to sign for Chelsea and is seriously considering the move in a few months. If the transfer goes through for £68 million, £63 million would go to Napoli, while Galatasaray would receive £5 million.
He currently has two years left on his contract with Napoli, and Chelsea had initially seen him as a potential long-term solution to their striker issues, especially after Nicolas Jackson’s mixed first season at Stamford Bridge, where Jackson netted 17 goals in 44 appearances.
However, Jackson has responded well this season, scoring four goals and providing three assists in the Premier League, helping Chelsea to fourth place.
Other forwards like Samu Omorodion, Jhon Duran, Benjamin Sesko, and Viktor Gyokeres were also linked with Chelsea during the summer transfer window.
