Gittens is viewed as a key piece in Chelsea’s plan to revamp their attack, particularly as a replacement for Jadon Sancho.
Now, attention has turned to João Pedro, with Chelsea stepping up talks to secure the Brazilian’s signature.
The 23-year-old, who impressed with 20 goal contributions last season, is admired for his versatility and tactical intelligence—qualities that align well with Enzo Maresca’s high-pressing, possession-based system.
While Newcastle have long been interested in Pedro and previously attempted to sign him from Watford, Chelsea’s recent efforts appear to have given them the edge.
Pedro is reportedly leaning toward a move to West London, drawn by the promise of a central role and the club’s youthful project.
Brighton, however, are holding firm on their valuation and are reluctant to sell unless their asking price is met.
If Chelsea succeed in landing Pedro, he would join a growing list of summer signings as the club continues to reshape its squad under Maresca’s leadership.
“Newcastle had two proposals rejected by Brighton and Chelsea now pushing,” Romano added.
João Pedro, who has also attracted interest from Liverpool, has been a long-term target for Newcastle United this summer.
The Magpies recently submitted a bid in the region of £50 million, but Brighton swiftly turned it down, holding firm on their valuation of at least £60 million.
Despite Newcastle’s persistence, Pedro is reportedly leaning toward a move to Chelsea, provided the London club can reach an agreement with Brighton.
The Brazilian forward joined the Seagulls from Watford and has since flourished, scoring 30 goals in 70 appearances across all competitions.
Last season, he netted 10 times in the Premier League as Brighton finished eighth, narrowly missing out on European qualification.
However, his campaign ended on a sour note after he was dropped from the squad for a match against Liverpool following a training ground altercation with teammate Jan Paul van Hecke.
Chelsea, who have already made several signings this summer, are pushing to secure Pedro’s signature as they look to strengthen their attack.
The player is said to be enticed by the opportunity to become a regular starter at Stamford Bridge, especially with uncertainty surrounding the futures of Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku.
Asked if the player would be back at Brighton for pre-season, Brighton head coach Fabio Hurzeler said this week: “Yeah for sure. I’m really looking forward for both of them.”
He added: They are great players, they helped us last season. They are expected to be back next week.”
