Antonio Conte has admitted that he has been delighted with the impact of Olivier Giroud at the club so far after signing for Chelsea in January.
The France international opted to leave Arsenal and move to their local rivals after having found his first-team opportunities at The Emirates to be limited this campaign.
Giroud has made a good start to life at Stamford Bridge and he scored Chelsea’s opening goal in their 2-0 victory over Southampton on Sunday.
Conte chose to start the French striker ahead of Alvaro Morata on Sunday, with the Spaniard having come off the bench to score Chelsea second goal.
And Conte has conceded that he has been amazed by the impact Giroud has had at the club after his move to Stamford Bridge.
Speaking at his post-match news conference, Conte said: “He [Giroud] has been a good signing for us, for sure.
“I needed a player with his characteristics: strong physically, able to hold the ball up allow our number 10 to make combinations with him.”
Chelsea will play Manchester United in the FA Cup final next month as both team try and end the season on a high.
Chelsea will play Swansea City in the Premier League this weekend.
