The Brazilian-born forward, who played internationally for both Brazil and Spain, had notable stints at top clubs including Atlético Madrid and Chelsea, where he secured two Premier League titles in 2014/15 and 2016/17, along with the 2015 League Cup.
He scored 59 goals for the west London side, though his fiery and combative style of play is what many fans remember most.
Costa departed Chelsea in 2017 following a dispute with then-manager Antonio Conte, later returning to the Premier League with Wolves for the 2022/23 season.
Just last week, he was back at Stamford Bridge for a charity match featuring Chelsea and Liverpool Legends.
It didn’t take long for tensions to rise between Costa and ex-Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel.
After a tough challenge from the Slovakian, Costa retaliated moments later by crashing into him from behind.
Despite the clash, the two seemed to reconcile post-match, with Costa sharing a photo on Instagram alongside Skrtel.
Liverpool Legends claimed a 1-0 victory courtesy of a late goal from Ryan Babel.
Additional footage has surfaced showing Costa in training before the match, and it’s clear he maintains his no-nonsense approach on the pitch.
In the clip, Costa is seen charging at Gemma Davison—who previously played for Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, and England—before knocking her down with a shoulder barge.
Former Chelsea captain John Terry can be heard shouting, “That’s a yellow that,” moments after.
Terry also appears in the viral video.
“That’s Diego in a nutshell, just doesn’t give a s***,” Terry remarked in the clip.
He later shared that Davison responded to the incident by saying: “I love all that.”
Although Costa is currently unattached to any club, he hasn’t officially retired, with his last appearance coming for Brazilian side Gremio in 2024.
Social media users were quick to comment on the clip.
One said: “Oh, he held on to her jersey to break the fall so she doesn’t get hurt, that’s very sweet by his standards.”
Another added: “Watching Diego Costa play feels like a glitch in the matrix because no one moves or scores like that on purpose. You can try to copy him but you’ll just end up looking clumsy and frustrated.”
A third joked: “Bro still thinks every training drill is a Champions League final.”
