Peter Crouch fires warning to Man Utd owners over Jadon Sancho transfer

Former England player Peter Crouch has warned the Glazers that Jadon Sancho’s arrival at the club will not appease angry Manchester United supporters.

On Thursday, United confirmed they had reached an agreement in principle to sign England international from Borussia Dortmund.

The Red devils will pay around £73m for the 21-year-old attacker, who will undertake a medical at Old Trafford after England’s Euro 2020 campaign.

Crouch expects Sancho to thrive at the club but says the deal will not appease the fans who still want to remove the Glazer family.

Crouch told Paddy Power: ‘It’s the summer transfer window and that means Manchester United will be linked with some of the biggest names on the planet.

‘This year it’s Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Eduardo Camavinga. They’ve got loads of cash to spend and it looks like they might actually use it this time.

‘Sancho seems to be a done deal from Borussia Dortmund for £73m, but big-money transfers won’t change United fans’ perception of the Glazer family.

‘The owners’ problems are too deep-rooted to be solved just by spending a few quid. They cannot buy the fans’ happiness. ‘Look, it’s a positive step and I think United fans will love Sancho, but the damage has been done over the years and looks impossible to rebuild.

‘They’ve spent loads of money on players before, but recruitment has been poor. How many average centre backs do they have?

‘Edinson Cavani is class but he’s not a long-term solution. Their entire way of running the club is what angers United fans.’

Meanwhile, Rio Ferdinand has expressed his excitement over Sancho’s deal. He told the FIVE YouTube channel: ‘On the right-hand side and the left-hand side, we haven’t got a winger who goes on the outside and can cross the ball. That’s what you need.

‘He can play on the right or the left, he plays with both feet. On that right-wing, as well as Mason [Greenwood] has done and I’m a massive fan of his, this is Manchester United, who are always associated with wingers.

‘At any of our most successful times, there’s been wide players who can cross the ball. For a full-back, it’s terrible news!’
