Matheus Cunha is set to become Manchester United’s first signing of the summer transfer window after the club finalized an agreement to bring the Wolves forward to Old Trafford.

United confirmed Cunha’s arrival on Sunday, following his stay at The Lowry Hotel in Manchester with his family. He will soon join his national team in Brazil before returning for pre-season training after a short break.
Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford’s future remains uncertain. The forward, who spent the latter half of the season on loan at Aston Villa, is reportedly up for sale.
Although United are asking for a significant fee, Villa has yet to indicate whether they will activate their option to buy him. Barcelona has held discussions with Rashford’s representatives but prefers a loan deal instead.
Regardless of Rashford’s fate, reports suggest Cunha will inherit the No. 10 shirt at United, a number Rashford has worn for several years. According to Rio Ferdinand, Cunha will take over the iconic jersey, having previously worn it at Wolves and Hertha Berlin.
“This is a huge factor. I think if you’re going to go and buy players from foreign leagues, players that don’t have the experience in the Premier League, there is always a risk. He has the experience here. We’ve seen him here. He grew up a Man United fan.”
But, Ferdinand also raised questions about the potential implications of Cunha taking the No 10 shirt, previously worn by Rashford.
He added: “I’m hearing he’s taking the No 10 shirt, which was Rashford’s shirt. What does that mean for Marcus Rashford? I don’t know. There are a lot of questions that will be asked about that as well.
“Seventeen goals, six assists in 36 games for a Wolves team, I think it’s impressive. I think the recruitment team for Manchester United would have seen, and the coaches here would have seen, what he did to Man United at Old Trafford. He was slicing through Man United like a hot knife through butter.”
