Jones, who has made over 100 appearances for Liverpool by the age of 23, confessed that growing up, he admired and studied Hazard’s carefree and relaxed style of play.

Despite Hazard’s disappointing move to Real Madrid, he illuminated the Premier League for seven seasons and was a delight to watch.

Jones enjoyed watching the two-time Premier League winner so much that he considers Hazard to be a better player than his Liverpool teammate Salah, even mentioning that he’s discussed this with the Egyptian.

However, Jones acknowledged that Salah, with an impressive 175 goals and 82 assists in the Premier League, would be the preferred choice for a team because of his remarkable statistics.

“My one and I know this might go a little bit left with our fans because the comparison is always there, but [Eden] Hazard,” Jones said in an honest admission.

“Hazard is the one, I know we compare with Mo all the time, and I’ve been into it with Mo.

“As a player from who I’ve seen as a kid, when I loved and was studying the game and I wanted to be like a player, I feel like it was Hazard.

“He was the one who every game I’d watch him I was just like, ‘Wow, that’s football’.” “I wouldn’t say he’s disrespected, but he might not come into certain [conversations] that he should.

“It’s a talk I’ve had with Mo and all the lads. As a footballer, is he better than Mo? In my opinion, yes. But who would you rather have in your team? They’re going to say Mo because he gets you your goals and assists.”

After receiving major backlash from Liverpool fans, Jones responded by sharing a picture of him and Salah – confirming where his allegiance lies by captioning his post on X: “The one I’d rather have in my team.”.

Hazard himself was asked the question by back in September 2024 and did not hesitate in the slightest.

When asked who is better, the Belgian replied: “Mo Salah, by far.”

The former Belgium international was then asked if he is surprised to see the level Salah has reached after failing to deliver in his first spell in English football.

Hazard responded: “He was good already, you know, but that good? We played when he was playing in Basel. So we played Champions League the year before and then we were like, ‘Wow’.

“And then we bought him like, ‘Yeah, we have to. We have to buy this guy because this guy is so good’.

“And then, you know, in football you have ups and downs and then what he did with Liverpool is like, ‘Wow’.”
