Speculation about Darwin Nunez’s tenure with Liverpool has intensified after he removed all club-related images from his Instagram on Sunday night.
Despite netting 18 goals across various tournaments this season, the 24-year-old striker has faced criticism for his erratic performance on the field.

Nunez, acquired by Liverpool for £85 million from Benfica in June 2022, is still bound by a four-year contract. Recent rumors have linked him with a potential transfer to Barcelona.
Liverpool fans are anxious that Nunez might be wrapping up his time at Anfield, especially after noticing late Sunday that he had purged his Instagram of all Liverpool-related content, leaving only family pictures and memories from his time with Benfica and the Uruguayan national team.
Lately, Nunez has been coming off the bench in Liverpool’s last two Premier League matches, with a solitary goal in his past 11 games across all competitions.
In his most recent starting appearance for Liverpool, Nunez squandered a prime opportunity to level the score against Everton, which was followed by Everton securing a 2-0 victory at Goodison Park.
Jamie Carragher, in his post-match analysis, labeled the missed chance as ‘unforgivable’ and questioned Nunez’s long-term fit for Liverpool’s squad.
‘The chance that Nunez misses before half-time, that is unforgivable at this level. That is not acceptable at this level, certainly when Liverpool are going for the title,’ Carragher said.
‘I think there is a question to ask. You want him to do well because there is so much that you like because he gives everything, he runs and causes trouble and gets the odd goal and gets an assist.
‘But after two years when Liverpool this season are going to the title and those big games, you need your man to score away at Old Trafford, away at Goodison, in the European game at Atalanta. There is no time to waste, this is not October or November. This is the business end.
‘In terms of Nunez and where the club go forward now, we have all been in squads where someone comes in and maybe you talk about the first year and maybe say, okay he’s getting up to speed with and he’s improving, and it looked like he was at the start of the season. But it has ground to a halt.’
