David De Gea responds to Real Madrid transfer links

David De Gea says talks about his future at Manchester United are less important as he focuses on the upcoming World Cup in Russia.

Spain international, De Gea was on the verge of leaving for Real Madrid three years ago but his deadline day transfer broke down due to paperwork issues.

Real Madrid have remain interested in signing David De Gea ever since and could make a summer move to make him their new number one ahead of next season.

During Spain’s media day ahead of the World Cup, De Gea was once again asked about his future at United.

The 27-year-old responded by saying: ‘My future? The important thing is the World Cup and not to think of anything else that can divert you or upset you.

‘You have to be focused on having a good World Cup – we are all good. Hopefully we can go far and win.

‘Football is football and a thousand things can happen.

‘But I’m always calm. Come what may, I’ll be the same. It is important to be focused and be 100 per cent.’

De Gea has developed into one of the best goalkeepers in the world at Old Trafford and has appeared in the PFA Team of the Year four times.

The shit-stopper will hope to help Spain enjoy a good run in Russia – Julen Lopetegui’s team are one of the favourites to win the trophy at the end of the tournament.

‘We are very excited, there is a good team, a good group. We are going with hope,’ De Gea added.
